CropLogic: The Leading Ag-Tech Firm in the Asia-Pacific

CropLogic Limited is an award-winning global digital ag-tech company specialising in soil moisture management solutions. Over the last couple of years, the firm has experienced meteoric growth on the back of their dedication to established science, agronomy, and developing a strong company culture. Earlier this year, CropLogic’s CEO, James Cooper-Jones, was recognised in APAC Insider’s APAC Business Excellence programme as the Most Innovative CEO in Perth, Australia. Here, James discusses the company and how it has grown to become one of the leaders in agricultural technology.

The last two years has yielded incredibly impressive growth for CropLogic on the back of their expansion into new markets. Most significant has been their launch in Washington state in the United States, which has experienced a 500% increase in the take up of their signature technology in the Columbia Basin region, with a market share as high as 30% in some crops. But, by all considerations, this is only the beginning for CropLogic, as they look to establish a firm grip on the Pacific Northwest: “Our vision is to be the leading provider of powerfully simple and actionable intelligence designed for irrigated crop farmers to better manage water usage and to enhance crop behaviour and performance.”

James attributes the firm’s enduring success to a triumvirate of qualities that define the company’s ethos and culture. The first is good science: “Our technology has origins out of the Institute of Plant and Food in New Zealand. The Institute is New Zealand’s government owned agricultural research institute and much of our technology is based on 30 years of plant performance data analytics and research and over 600 field trials worldwide. So, we have a deep body of science behind our technology when compared to our competitors.”

“We also partner with agronomists in the regions we enter. They are, essentially, farm scientists, experts in soil moisture, soil sampling and other elements of optimum plant management. This coupled with our scientific foundation provides a very well-rounded and practical product for growers. Last, but not least, is our people. We have a great group of people that are big believers in how digital ag-tech can assist growers to contribute profitably and sustainably to the increased global demand for food.”

The future for CropLogic relies on this idea of confident expansion: “Our current regions of growth are the Pacific Northwest – Washington State, Idaho and Oregon, and also Australia. However, in the years to come we see us offering our services in the greater US states and further expansion into Europe and Asia.”
