Jan22686 F eFbe2b22523386 9 It may have come from humble beginnings, but Queensland Country Bank is built on strong foundations. The member-owned bank has three simple values: ‘be genuine’, ‘bring your best’, and ‘put people first’. Fostering connection and unity by building long-lasting relationships with its members and staff, the bank continues to see growth in demand for its services. With full-service branches in Brisbane, Cairns, Ipswich, Mackay, and Townsville, Queensland Country Bank provides a range of digital services, too. Its offering comes in the form of savings, loans, and credit cards to individual members, as well as a range of business and insurance services. So, how does Queensland Country Bank differentiate itself from the competition? Marketing and PR Manager, Anita Vezzaro tells us, “We don’t have customers, we have members. They are at the forefront of everything we do. Our focus is on how we can return our profits to our members and their communities. We’re devoted to ensuring that we always provide banking products and services that matter to our members.” As interest rates continue to fluctuate, the bank is seeing its members experience more financial pressure, in particular when managing household budgets. Whilst the bank focuses on growing its business for a sustainable future, it understands the importance of helping its members on an individual level. Offering services such as offset accounts and redraw facilities provides members with valuable peace of mind in times of change. Anita says, “We offer a free service to our members which we call ‘Money Mentors’. The service allows members to access mentorship and advice for budgeting. Many of our members find our SmartBudget product particularly helpful, too. It takes the stress out of paying their bills on time.” As a business owned and operated by its members, it’s no surprise to learn that Queensland Country Bank’s leadership team is largely focused on its people. The bank’s ‘open door’ policy encourages staff to share ideas and work together as a team to deliver the best outcomes for everyone. “Our culture comes from fostering a spirit of mindfulness, care, and genuine empathy towards everyone we interact with,” says Anita. “We want our staff to lead by example, enjoy themselves, and have fun. When recruiting, we look for candidates that genuinely care about putting people first. They have the drive and perseverance it takes to make a difference.” Being community-orientated, Queensland Country Bank also partners with local organisations and contributes to projects. Initiatives include offering community grants, providing major community sponsorships and making donations to the bank’s charity partner, Ronald McDonald House (North Australian Chapter). Anita states, “For us, it’s all about helping people succeed, doing the right thing, and giving back to our local communities. This shared vision helps us to become stronger as an organisation.” Looking to the future, Queensland Country Bank will be improving its digital services. But, understanding the importance of being able to speak to someone face-to-face when making financial decisions, the bank has no intention of reducing its branch footprint.
