Australian Enterprise Awards 2023

Mar22270 Jan23239 Get back to nature and lose yourself in the peace and serenity of a secluded getaway on the river. Perfect for a romantic break or a tranquil retreat, Bill’s Boathouse offers guests the luxury of a hotel, whilst enjoying the peaceful surroundings and abundant wildlife. Having recently received recognition in the Australian Enterprise Awards 2023, the boathouse’s owner tells us a little more about what makes it so special. Bill’s Boathouse is a beautiful, sustainable tiny house moored permanently on the Murray River as part of the Riverglen Marina Reserve southeast of Adelaide. Riverglen Marina itself is a full-service marina with riverfront and basin berths of varying sizes to suit houseboats, cruisers, and small boats, set amongst the gums and willows in a quiet rural river location. Ideal for couples, whether you desire a place for a romantic getaway, a creative working stay, or just a few days away from it all, Bill’s Boathouse is the perfect choice to relax by the water and enjoy the sounds of nature. Featuring a unique industrial design, Bill’s Boathouse is a completely self-contained, modern concept floating eco pod, providing a stylish getaway boathouse right on the river’s edge. Owner, Cheryl Ormond tells us more about her humble abode. “It offers a spacious, fully functional kitchen for those who love to cook, a Webber barbecue for those who don’t like to cook, a fishing rod and tackle for those who want to catch what they cook, plus two outdoor sun chairs and a hammock for those waiting to be fed!” she laughs. The bedroom includes a built-in wardrobe, queen-size bed, and warm American Oak driftwood flooring, while the adjoining modern bathroom has a fullsized shower for a relaxing soak. The queen-size bed looks out to the water through the willow trees – as does our outdoor bathtub on the deck. There’s a desk for creative types who wish to be inspired by nature or get their heads down and work whilst enjoying the peaceful surroundings, and when sunset comes you may wish to light the fire or soak in the steaming outdoor clawfoot bath by the light of the firepit. “When you’re in full relaxation mode, the wrap-around timber deck offers sensational views directly facing the river,” elaborates Cheryl. “Grab a deck chair or a sun lounger, soak in the sunset, and embrace the fun of river life!” Attention to details is what differentiates Bill’s Boathouse from others and makes all the difference. In spring and summer, there is a hammock for use on the deck, kayaks and life jackets on hand to enjoy a day on the water, and organic tea blends, jams, and handmade bath salts to hand, ensuring that your stay is perfect in every way. “We excel in unique barefoot luxury stays in a sustainable tiny home moored right in nature,” says Cheryl. “We are certified by Eco Tourism Australia and are actively contributing to the tourism in the Murray region.” Having been operating in the eco-tourism industry for six years, being one of the first to set the barefoot luxury trend, Bill’s Boathouse is geared towards reconnecting people with nature, bringing them into the region and offering an experience quite unlike any other. Recently, for its unusual design, concept, and its connection to the eco-tourism trade, Bill’s Boathouse was recognised in the Australian Enterprise Awards 2023 and bestowed with the prestigious accolade of Best Riverside Getaway 2023 – SA. A very fitting achievement for a remarkable and sustainable getaway.
