We profile the firm to find out more about the firm and the range of projects it undertakes. Since its establishment in 1996, KplusK has established itself as one of the leading Architects for Luxury Residential, Hotel and Serviced Apartment developments in Asia. With each project, the firm aims to create highly personalized environments, combining ergonomic and technological concerns, without compromising the pursuit of a dynamic, heterogeneous, sensual viscosity. As part of this approach, KplusK’s mantra is that ‘Sensuality in Architecture must also engage with the issues of sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.’ KplusK currently expands on these tenets in eight different countries regionally. Among the firm’s recent successful projects is the Odin Project, a world-class luxury residence set on a beautiful sloping terrain in middle Hirafu village. Located in the heart of Niseko in Hokkaido Japan, Odin’s environments are created around a genuine philosophy of living, and was conceived as a cross over of Japanese and Western influences. The building is sumptuously curvilinear and exquisitely detailed. It is designed with an uncompromising attitude towards environmental sustainability, utilizing Low-e double glazing throughout and a Geothermal heat pump system to provide all of the buildings hot water requirements. At one with nature, the residence is a stunning creation, offering 550 m2 of living space. Featuring four bedrooms, the home is designed to make optimal use of natural light, while meticulously exploiting the lay of the land to leverage the stunning views of the natural surroundings. Another key project for the firm was Union Church, a new build Church in Kennedy Road Hong Kong, built to last more than 100 years. It is designed with a highly insulated skin, with light slots etched into the diamond shaped crystal glass panels, which create 200 light perforations, casting light beams into the body of the sanctuary space. Recently, KplusK has designed a polemical Architectural project to present to the HK Government, designed to help them in the creation of affordable housing. This has been achieved using Hi-cube sea containers, fused together, highly insulated and then over clad, to create a viable solution to the housing crisis facing Hong Kong today. Looking to the future, KplusK is excited to continue serving both Hong Kong and the Asia- Pacific region in the creation of sustainable building solutions and thrilling environments for everyone. This will remain the firm’s ongoing focus as it seeks to undertake even more invigorating projects and expand its already vast portfolio.
