A service-based subscription model means the company’s customers avoid the (large) single lump-sum payment for their new devices, and also offers them benefits like all necessary ongoing maintenance and servicing, data storage, troubleshooting, and software upgrade. “While we have observed some hesitance to this model in APAC, we believe that this will start to shift as customers demand more flexibility, and as it becomes standard.” Recently, Topcon was recognised for its diligence and hard work by being given the prestigious accolade of Best Ophthalmology Software Solutions Provider 2021 in the APAC Insider Business Awards, and whilst there are challenges moving forward, Leo is also confident that the future is looking bright. “The insufficient supply of care is the most prominent problem in APAC,” he says. “We are currently working on a collaboration with APAC based Artificial Intelligence players to address this issue from different perspective. Artificial Intelligence has an enormous potential to save time and cost, and even improve the accuracy of diagnosis.
