For over 10 years, The Centre for Excellence in Rail Training (CERT) has been an industry leader in developing and delivering rail training services and solutions Australia wide. We profile the company as we look to gain an insight into its success.

Established in 2003, CERT currently provides responsive, flexible, innovative and cost-effective training solutions to the Australian Rail Industry. Plus, the firm delivers assessment services to organisations, including but not limited to, Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), Laing O’Rourke (LOR), Fluor Rail Service (FRS), Watco WA, John Holland Group, Rail Corp, Trans Adelaide, Metro Trains, Queensland Rail, Rio Tinto Iron Ore, and BHP Billiton Iron Ore.

Nationally, the company employs in excess of thirty-five trainers and assessors with either a safety or rail background, and in most cases, both. CERT’s business commenced, and remains, a national business with local teams consisting of highly skilled and experienced training Deliverer’s, Administrators and Managers who are able to transfer those skills and services to the international rail training market.

All CERT trainers hold the relevant and current Certificate IV Training and Assessing qualification (TAE), many hold Certificate III Rail Infrastructure and/or Certificate III in Rail Operations as well as other relevant vocational qualifications. Highly qualified, all trainers are skilled and experienced in dealing with students with language, literacy and numeracy issues and are adept at tailoring learning to the needs of the student.

Additionally, CERT, in association with United Equipment is proud to offer customers a wide range of nationally accredited HighRisk Licence options. This is vital to the company’s success and achievements, with it being clear that staff place on emphasis on putting the client first.
Crucially, students can select from a variety of courses, including high-risk work licence courses for forklifts, order pickers and elevated working platforms, as well as Verification of Competence (VOC) training courses, available on a variety of equipment from smaller electronic and riders all the way up to 45 tonnes reach stackers.

Boasting a wealth of expertise, CERT has offices and Trainers which are strategically placed nationally, and in all mainland states, to ensure compliant, responsive and cost-effective service to national clients. Being versatile and adaptability, CERT has the ability to mobilise both personnel and business processes nationally as required.

Importantly, the highly qualified and knowledgeable CERT Managers, Trainers, Compliance and Administrative staff have ongoing experience in the coordination of national national and international training requirements. With continual interaction with major rail operators, skills councils and contracting companies CERT has gained the experience and the ability to perform holistic training and assessment processes.

Possessing the ability to ensure all rail safety workers are all able to perform their duties to the highest possible standard, the firm trains them using customized and clustered training to provide results which embed client’s culture, enabling all staff to provide a comprehensive and efficient service.

Essentially, CERT continuously develops its professional trainers in order to ensure that their skills are diverse and current, guaranteeing flexibility to the client and portability of skills across a range of industry qualifications.

Significantly, all outcomes delivered by CERT comply with state and national rail safety legislation. The Australian Qualifications Framework provides a robust and transferable structure that will ensure compliance, consistency and contextualised learning outcomes delivered by CERT’s experienced rail training professionals with proven and ongoing results in all facets of rail vocational education.

Ultimately, what makes and has made CERT successful, is the organisation’s constant ability to be able to meet its key clients focused values. It is something the firm prides itself on, as it is responsive, flexible, innovative, cost effective and also compliant. Staff have always been able to meet the needs of clients, helping them to achieve their goals when they need them, whilst also being able to tailor programs and services to still achieve its national requirements, but still meet the specific needs of clients.

Notably, CERT also has the ability to provide a service wherever and whenever required as well as being innovative. Continually striving to become the leader in Rail Training, but also to develop systems, methods and approaches, the firm is constantly ensuring that its programs are innovative, reducing time and continually improving on its student’s learning and assessment experiences. By leading in innovation with technological advances, CERT believes it can add valuable services to the rail industry.

On the whole, CERT prides itself on the value it provides to clients, as its programs are cost effective. The programs are priced accordingly to the format of each program and its clients receive the quality of services for which they pay. CERT has trainers and offices strategically placed nationally, to make sure resources are conveniently situated to clients’ sites and their operations saving on mobilisation and logistical costs.

Lastly, in addition to the above values that have historically been the identity of the organisation, staff have added the following values which the company believe are crucial to the identity and the services which it supplies. Being compliant, CERT at all times ensures that its systems are compliant and rigorously monitored to ensure its responsibilities as a RTO are upheld, alongside to its services as a provider to the Rail Industry. All CERT programs and processes are benchmarked not only to the highest of national and international standards.
